In a World where you can be Anything – Be Kind!

14th August 2018 By Jonelle 4 Comments

In a world where you can be anything, be kind!

We have been living here for almost two months now – woop, can you believe that? Honestly I don’t know where the time goes. Honestly, one thing that really stands out for me about this country is how kind people are.

People are genuinely nice – way to go New Zealand! Seriously they will offer you help or their seat on the bus or walk past you and say hello or smile at you because you’re there. It’s such a nice way to live.

I’ve had my fair share of unkind people in my life, I’ve no doubt been an unkind person but I try really hard to be kind. I try really hard to not be a “mean girl” because the world is too big a place to be fighting with others for our place in the sunshine.

It’s not about YOU

When people are nasty to each other or they say things in anger, it’s usually not about them. I am a really sensitive person and get my feelings hurt a lot. It’s funny because people OFTEN say how they thought I was “a bitch” until they got to know me. I don’t think I’m a bitch but my resting bitch face makes people think I am mean. I’m not. I’m actually very nice (if you have to tell people you are, are you really lol) but honestly, I’m also very introverted so people think I’m aloof.

Anyway I digress. There is so much room in the world for all of us. We may not agree and we may not like each other but that doesn’t make it okay to be mean. It’s never okay be nasty to someone, especially if you don’t even know their side of things.

Suicide is so prevalent

People are killing themselves ALL THE TIME. Public figures who we think are happy and wealthy and successful (because money = success) and then suddenly we read about their suicide and it’s bloody tragic. Bullying is something that happens so often that we sweep under the rug.

We judge people without knowing their side of the story.

We take the word of one person over another.

We are quick to get involved and fuel the fire because it’s fun to be on the “inside” of juicy gossip.

But really, who are we serving?

Are our lives REALLY enriched by being unkind? I don’t think so. Instead, it just leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

Stop being so fast to jump in on the action. Stop being so fast to be nasty and mean. In a world where you can literally be anything – be kind. You never know what that might mean to the other person.

Buy a stranger a cup of tea today

Smile at someone as you walk past them

Tell someone you like their outfit

Call an old friend just to say hi

Send your mom flowers

Just do something nice today! You might change someone’s whole day!

Be kind whenever possible. It’s always possible. – Dalai Lama

So true….. Look, sometimes people deserve a whole bloody bucket of unkind, because it sucks when you’re always considering everything others may be going through, but nobody returns the favour???? So there needs to be a balance I guess, but yes….most of the time I agree with this…be kind <3

I think in those situations, you need to be kind to yourself and walk away. It takes so much from you to be ugly back. Michelle Obama said “when they go low, we go high” and I want to believe that’s possible.

A weird mix of the old and the new. This beautiful book from @theaxelife_ , a gift from my old team, my wonderful friends chose it for me because I love plants and I love interiors and I couldn't feel more seen. You join a team to do a job and walking away with true friends is the best part.
