I don’t think there is a single parent on earth who can say that bath time is always the favourite time of day. Oden absolutely LOVES bath time and yet there are still days when it’s almost impossible to get him into one. So when I was offered the chance to test out this amazing bath time product I jumped at it! Who wouldn’t want to make bath time fun. And if I’m honest, I really wanted to experience it for myself anyway.
So what is this product?
We were sent two different types; Slime Baff that magically transforms water into gooey oozy Slime and back again and Gelli Baff that magically transforms water into brightly coloured goo and back again!
The product claims to be 100% safe on skin, stain free, non toxic and environmentally friendly, which means they can be drained away and disposed of easily. If it hadn’t been, I don’t think I’d have been so keen to put my kid in what looks like a science experiment :P.
Putting it to the test
The first one we tested out was the Slime Baff – because of the drought in Cape Town, we tried these out a week apart and only using the bath water I had already bathed Oden in. As you can see, his bath is tiny anyway so it worked really well.
The slime is created by mixing in a powder into the bath water. After 5 to 10 minutes the water changes consistency into either the slime or the gelli, depending on which you used.
The slime was fun for Oden but after about ten minutes of it he had had enough and was ready to get out the bath. Getting rid of it was a little bit more of an issue as it requires you adding more water into the bath to dissolve it. I opted instead (as directed in the instructions) to flush it down the toilet because of the water issues we are having. I don’t think I will be using this product again soon not because it wasn’t awesome – it was – but with the water problems here in Cape Town, it just becomes too much work scooping it out the bath.
The Gelli Baff on the other hand was A HUGE hit! Like with the slime I only used it in his bath water after we had already scrubbed off the days dirt and washed his hair for school the next day. The process of creating the “gelli” was pretty straight forward, again just sprinkled in the powder and mixed it up. It formed really quickly and it turns into a thick goopy jelly texture.
It was MARVELLOUS! Oden loved it, I loved it and even my husband couldn’t resist having a bit of a play with the “water”. As you can see in the pictures below, Oden was EXTREMELY excited about this bath. In fact, I asked three different times if he’s ready to get out the bath and his very emphatic answer was NO! Okay then!
Eventually, he had been in there for ages – having the time of his life – but bed time was nearing and I needed to get him ready for bed so I sneakily stirred in the dissolving agent and in no time the gelli had turned back into liquid and could easily be drained out the bath. With this one, there’s no need to run more water into the bath and I used the same amount of water to wash the bath after his bath that I normally use.
The gelli beads don’t dissolve completely so I’m not sure what happens to them once they go down the drain and I’d like to know more about that before flushing more of them down the drain but assuming they really pose no threat to the environment, we definitely would be using this again!
Oden loved it and had an absolutely blast!
*Thanks to Zimpli Kids for sending us the product to test out and review! We were sent the product for free but the review is my honest opinion.
