I watched a movie recently, it was called Hector and the search for happiness. It’s a movie about a guy who goes off in search of what makes people happy. He’s a psychiatrist and he calls his journey “research” but the truth is, he’s out there looking for his own version of happy. It made me think about the meaning of happiness.
How do you describe happiness?
I guess, in essence, happiness is a feeling and not really something that can be described all that well. What makes one person happy isn’t the same necessarily as what makes another person happy and the feelings you get when you are happy differ from one to the next.

If you want to be rich, then happiness is in making money. If you want to be in love, happiness is tied to finding that person who makes your heart pound.
Happiness doesn’t have to be achieving anything. It can be found in a quiet moment spent on a bench, watching the day pass by.
What really makes you happy?
It’s everything and anything all at the same time. It is striving towards something, it’s achieving your goals, it’s in rest and peace and a life well lived. Happiness is in a meal enjoyed, a chat with a good friend, a moment of quiet, alone. An early night sleep, a productive morning.
We don’t have to be like Hector and go off to China with a bag packed full of happiness-finding-tools. We don’t need to leave our home at all if that’s not what we want to do.
Happiness is a mindset.
Happiness for me, is in accepting the moment for what it is. For letting things go by without over thinking, without adding meaning or expectations. Happiness is enjoying the small things, the quiet moments. It’s being yourself and looking within and appreciating the life you live. Happiness doesn’t have to come from making changes to your life, but it can, if that’s what you need to do.
Happiness is within you and only you can truly know what your definition of happiness is.
My own journey to happy
Like Hector, I went on a year-long adventure in order to find my happiness. I travelled from continent to continent in search of that feeling. Chasing one dream to the next. What I found surprised me.
Happiness for me, is the love of my friends and family, good food, good wine and seeing my son smile at me first thing every morning. Happiness for me, is being in my home and cuddling with my dogs.
Happiness is sleeping in, reading a good book and watching a good movie cuddled on the sofa.
Life really isn’t only about what you make it, but appreciating what you have!

Happiness to me is the simple things in life. Time with my healthy children & husband. Looking at the clouds, sunrise, sunset. Sounds corny, but it’s true. I’m trying to be more aware & present so that I don’t miss out on my kids. I’m trying to study their little faces everyday.

I don’t think it’s corny at all! I think life should be about these things. The people and the little things. Love your comment. I’m really looking forward to a lifetime of little moments with my family because those really are the things that matter <3

Happiness to me is appreciating what I have, from waking up in the morning to family joys. It’s a sunset, a starry sky, working at a potters wheel or creating anything from a cake to a dress

Thanks so much Ella! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I think we take for granted that we will magically just find happiness but it’s in our hands! We just have to create it!
