Having good car insurance means that you can really live life to the fullest without worrying about anything going wrong on your journey. Life should be about going on adventures, exploring and spending time with the people we love. We shouldn’t have to live with constant fear and worry about our possessions because life isn’t about things, it’s about experiences. The reality is, those things help make our lives more comfortable and it makes sense that we need to protect them just for our own peace of mind. Knowing that someone else is taking care of your valuables means that you can take care of what really matters; spending time with the people you love, doing the things that make you happy. It’s a great idea to make sure that you are completely covered by your insurance. King Price has an amazing product that enables you to save up to 20% when you insure two or more cars with them… And your car premium will STILL decrease monthly!
You can go on that adventure without having to think twice about the damage that your car might endure or panicking that you’ve parked it out in the open. Let’s face facts, these are real concerns of South Africans across the country but they shouldn’t stop you from living the life that you dream of. Your possessions shouldn’t be the reason that you stay locked up at home guarding them and keeping them safe. There’s so much to see and do around the country, you just have to plan ahead to make sure you, your home and your car are safe and there’s nothing else stopping you from your next big adventure.
Here’s a list of SIX ways to stay safe while road tripping in South Africa
- Book your accommodation in advance so that you can plan your route safely and you have a planned destination to arrive at. You don’t want to drive around in the dark in areas that you are not familiar with and it’s safer to know exactly where you are headed.
- Make sure you don’t leave any visible goods in your car if you have to park it in the street. This applies during the day and at night. Many insurance brokers won’t cover losses that occur due to you leaving items where they can be seen easily.
- Get your car serviced before your trip and check your tyres. You don’t want to risk breaking down in an isolated and hard to reach area where it’s hard to get help. Along the same lines, make sure that your car has enough petrol or diesel to last you the distance between isolated towns.
- Limit the amount of cash that you carry on you and where you can, rather try to make use of your debit cards. You should also never draw money from ATMs at night and especially not in dark areas. Be vigilant every time you do draw money from an ATM. Always be aware of your surroundings.
- When driving in more remote or rural areas, be vigilant about animals in the road. Nothing ends a road trip faster than crashing your car into a cow. Not good for you or the poor cow. Trust me, this is a real issue in South Africa. The beautiful country landscape often comes hand in hand with cows and goats and even dogs roaming free. Just always be careful.
- Take an old school map along with you in the car. Many areas of South Africa have poor signal and you might find yourself completely lost and without signal on your phone. It’s always safer to have planned your route in advance or to have a good old-fashioned map to help you if you find yourself completely off the beaten track.
South Africa is an amazing country with so much to see and so much to do and the last thing you need is for things to go wrong while you’re out exploring. You don’t have to be trapped at home looking after your house and keeping your car locked in the safety of your garage. Make sure you get decent car and household insurance and start planning your big adventure.
Life is about making the most of the time you’ve been given! It’s not too late to start exploring!
