Christmas is about SUMMER and SWIMMING and FUN in the SUN

Christmas has this reputation about being all about snowy weather and glowing fires. Here in Africa, in South Africa Christmas is all about SUMMER. In fact, nothing about it says let’s sit around a fire or build snowmen. Nope, instead, down here we spend our holidays at the pool, braaing and drinking cold beer or in my case, wine with lots of ice.

We get together with our family and friends on as many days as the holiday period will allow and we laugh and we swim and we soak up the African sun. Is it different from the wintry northern hemisphere, sure it is but is it a second-rate Christmas? No not at all. In fact, it’s my favourite time of the year! Even as a grown up, I literally count down to Christmas every single year! I love Christmas.

I love that I get to watch my son splash in the pool, it’s always a reminder of my own childhood. Sitting at the pool, drinking ice-cold juice and eating meat straight off the braai while the adults sat around laughing and talking.

  2. : I love listening to Christmas carols, snuggling in a blanket with family and friends, and humming these tunes. It encourages a feeling of closeness, and leads one to feelings of joy. During festive season I love decorating a tree, buying gifts for loved ones. Family gathering/get together at my place for a big feast. Enjoying all the traditional dishes and sweets, the house full of festivities, we feel like one big happy family. good food and great family and friends for a wonderful festive season
