President Jacob Zuma Resigns!

14th February 2018 By Jonelle

This blog isn’t a news site – I’m not here trying to break the news to anyone but wow, I’m so emotional right now. President Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa, has just resigned!!

I don’t know what this means for South Africa and if suddenly all our hopes and dreams will come true but I know that in spite of the saying “rather the devil you know than the devil you don’t know” this devil needed to go.

I can’t actually believe it took the ANC THIS LONG to do something about this man who has destroyed the hope of the people. The ANC brought freedom to the majority of this country and President Jacob Zuma took that hope and that freedom and he abused it.

When I was younger, I’d often have long discussions with my grandfather about the state of South African politics and I couldn’t understand WHY he supported the ANC with all their corruption and their lack of action to change the lives of the many many poor people who suffer on a daily basis.

It was during these discussions with him that my eyes were opened!

As a person of colour in South Africa, the ANC brought ME freedom too! While I didn’t grow up here, and I didn’t feel the full effect of Apartheid, I still knew segregation and discrimination which I encountered on every visit to South Africa and also often during my own country.

It wasn’t till I moved to South Africa that I started to feel it in the underlying tones of people.

It was the ANC that brought hope and freedom to the majority of this country. It was the ANC that brought change to the people. It was because of the ANC that I was able to study at the University of Cape Town, walk freely down the street and marry my husband.

I am grateful to them for my freedom then and I am grateful to the ANC for finally forcing the hand we witnessed tonight.

I don’t know what tomorrow will bring but wow – for tonight – there is new hope!!

Don’t worry, it was long and dragged out and boring waiting. Plus he was SO late…but I did go to sleep happy. lol 😛

I must say I am shocked and awed at the same time. I really didn’t think he would. He’s gained my respect tonight for doing the right thing even if his hand was forced. He could have delayed the process but chose to man up.

That’s what I thought too, weird that the only time he ever chooses the noble option is on his way out the door. Perhaps if he’d shown discipline and integrity sooner he’d be sleeping soundly in his presidential bed!

Hello, I’m Jonelle and this is my story.

Wow! This was a moment. Turning 40 when I almost d Wow! This was a moment.
Turning 40 when I almost didn’t live past 32.
Grateful for every day of every year since then!
Life is so precious and life is everything you make it.

Thankful for all the opportunities I’ve had along the way. Thankful for all the people I’ve met and the leaps I’ve taken!

Grateful to live where we do.
Grateful for my family and friends.
Grateful to live comfortably and never have to worry about being without. Such privilege in a world with so much struggle.

Thankful for my pets who drive me nuts and love me endlessly.

I’m looking forward to the next decade. Stepping more into myself and knowing who I am and what my boundaries are. The things I will not tolerate or accept.

Just grateful for my life.
The end. #HBD to me!
