Choosing to let go

19th March 2015 By Jonelle

We don’t always choose to walk away. Sometimes, we stand in the middle of the road and we watch the ones we love walk away from us. We wait for that moment when they will turn around and look at us, realise the mistake they are making and come running back into our open arms. We hope as we stand there that the world will send us a sign that shows us that we are all they ever wanted.

Life doesn’t work that way though does it!

But we stand and watch as they walk down that road. Away from us. Away from our memories and the life we shared until this moment.

It’s not always easy coming to terms with life and reality. We can’t always understand what it means to stop loving because to us, love will never end. It’s not even imaginable. Now I’m here to tell you that sometimes, when you love someone, who doesn’t love you back, you’ve got to wake up and make yourself realise that love is not always enough. Did that sink in?

Love is not always enough!

You can love someone all you want but if they don’t love you back, you will only feel heartache. If you let them, they will walk all over you and they will crush everything inside of you. You will keep on going thinking it’s worth it. It isn’t. You know why? Because love simply isn’t enough!

You have got to love yourself so much more.

You have got to know yourself and be certain that you never put yourself second. You always have to look out for your heart because no one else will ever care about it, the way you can. Sadly, love isn’t always forever. Sometimes we don’t see the train coming until it’s too late.

Choose to love yourself first.

Choose yourself over everything and everyone else because in the end, no one will ever really love you if you don’t even love yourself. Learn to let go. Let go of ugly situations, of people who aren’t worthy of being loved by you and mostly, let go of second place. If you have doubts, remember these wise words spoken by Eleanor Roosevelt;

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”

So don’t let them.

    […] In 2012, I met the man I was going to marry. He has helped me day by day to unpack the remnants of that bag. It’s a little lighter now. Because of him. Because he holds my hand and shows me that an adventure is still just as fun if you leave without any bags. They say you should meet someone, not who accepts your baggage but who helps you unpack. You’ve got to choose you. You’ve got to choose to let go! […]
